“Nautical blues
express
simple truths: honor, strength,
purity—what we’re all looking
for this year,” says Victoria
Stuart Burke.

Blue is the ultimate
crowd-pleaser. There’s
a shade for virtually
every taste, and it
never goes out of style.
This universal appeal
can lead to a color-
picking free-for-all, so
we asked Connecticut
color consultant
Victoria Stuart Burke
to help you find the
perfect blue.
THE RIGHT FIT
Hold
the chips up to the
furniture and fabrics in
the room you’re
painting and go with
your gut—colors that
don’t “feel right”
aren’t. “Wrong for you
is wrong,” Burke says.
Even better, if a fabric
in the room has blue in
it, take it to the paint
store and match it.
FOR TH E BRAVE
Choose a semigloss
finish and paint both
the walls and the
ceiling. It will make the
room feel like a jewel
box, Burke says.
STAR HUE
“Paint the
trim white and let the
blue do all the talking,”
Burke suggests. Her
top trim picks are
White Dove OC-17 and
Simply White OC-117
by Benjamin Moore.
